NORTHERN CALIFORNIA RICE FIELDS SEEN FROM SPACE SHOW SHOCKING DETAILS!
(AKA) I have seen the enemy and ... it ain't rice!
Greetings, soon-to-be grainless boys and girls:
Since I grew up in this area, I am very familiar with the location being shown. It is usually a mosquito infested sea of rice fields for as far as the eye can see.
Not so much any more.
Our engineered west coast "water shortage", combined with deliberately punitive State and Federal cut backs from the Oroville after-bay (originally created explicitly to bank and warm the lake water for rice farmers) has now turned this area into a dust bowl of dry empty dikes and fields.
The Oroville afterbay is still full of water, they just are not using it for rice.
Rice for suchi is soon going to be more expensive than the farmed-fish it contains.
Ironically, this alarming situation isn’t financially hurting the large rice farms, as most of them are recieving Federal payments for the rice they didn’t plant. Go figure, eh?
